Used Vehicle Import Guide for Tanzania

Tanzania is an important destination for Japanese used vehicles. Buyers should check vehicle age, dumping fee, import duties, PVoC inspection, right-hand drive requirements, and shipping documents before purchasing a vehicle.

Important Notice: Vehicles older than the recommended age range may be subject to additional charges. Inspection requirements and tax rates should be confirmed before shipment.

Import Conditions

Vehicles manufactured within 8 years are generally considered suitable for import. Older vehicles may be imported, but additional age-related penalties or charges may apply.

Dumping Fee

Vehicles aged 8 years or more may be subject to an additional dumping fee. Vehicles aged 10 years or more may face a higher additional charge.

PVoC Inspection

Pre-Export Verification of Conformity is required. The inspection should be carried out by an inspection company approved by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards.

Shipping Method

RORO vessel and container shipping are commonly used. The main destination port is Dar es Salaam.

Import Duty Import duty may differ between passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles such as vans and trucks.
VAT VAT is generally calculated based on CIF value plus applicable import duty and excise duty.
Other Charges Railway Development Levy, customs processing fees, and other charges may apply.
Required Documents Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Export Certificate, Certificate of Roadworthiness, TIN, VRN, and other customs clearance documents may be required.
Steering Regulation Right-hand drive vehicles are generally required. Left-hand drive vehicles are restricted except for specially approved vehicles.
